BCCS Childcare Policy Childcare is a gift of the Volunteers of The Brandermill Church Consignment sale and the use of facilities is a gift from The Brandermill Church. Therefore, the facilities must be treated with respect and maintain the same state or better upon completion of the sale as when we began the sale. In cooperation with The Brandermill Church, we have established guidelines in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for your children while they are in the hands of our volunteers. I. Safety A. The Brandermill Church has adopted a Child Abuse Prevention Policy known as Safe Sanctuary. We want to make it very clear that all children are safe while they are in our church. 1. The Safe Sanctuary rules are: "We do not hurt each other with our mouth, hands or our feet." 2. Therefore, during their time in our care, the Safe Sanctuary policy will apply and will be re-enforced. Please feel free to go over this with your child before the times in which you will need care, and let us know if we can answer any questions or concerns you may have. 3. Any child who breaks the Safe Sanctuary rules will have a two- minute time out by standing next to one of the adult volunteers. B. To make it absolutely safe as possible, it is mandatory that you sign your child in and out during the course of the day. This will ensure that the volunteers of the nursery are aware of each child that is in our care at all times. C. Please understand that sometimes, children get hurt! It is not our intention and we will try to make sure that at all times they are safe. But in the event your child is hurt, we will notify you immediately. In addition, an accident report will be completed. At this point you have the option to continue your child's stay in the nursery or to take your child home. Should you have questions about how your child was injured, we will be happy to answer them. Please remember we are human too. II. Disruptions A. Our little ones, as you know, are sometimes fragile in a new environment. And with good reason! To make it as easy as possible on your little ones, we ask that you: 1. Please do not bring any toys or snacks from home into the nursery. There are plenty of toys of every kind already in the room and with some children having severe allergies, we need to limit the type of food in the room. This includes bag lunches and fast food. If a child needs to eat, we will provide a blanket for the child to eat on outside the nursery. 2. We will provide goldfish crackers, pretzels and animal crackers as snacks. Please feel free to bring in a sippy cup or we will offer water in small disposable cups to each child. 3. Please minimize the amount of time you spend in the nursery. If after 10 minutes your child has not calmed down after you leave, we will come find you. As much as they LOVE to see you, and we know you love them so much, it is hard for them to see you come and go! Eliminating unnecessary visits will ease the stress on your child and our volunteers. III. Illness As much as we would LOVE to have your child in the nursery with us, we do ask that if your child is sick, PLEASE do not bring them to the nursery on the day you signed up. We reserve the right to refuse any sick child as it is not healthy for other children or our volunteers. If your child has: Green mucous, diarrhea, fever, more than normal coughing, pick eye, or lethargy, please refrain from bringing your child to the nursery. Just follow the normal preschool/school guidelines (24 hours free from illness or fever). Thank you in advance for your cooperation. IV. Discipline A. We will follow the Safe Sanctuary policy of The Brandermill Church. 1. No hurting with hands, feet or mouth. 2. Should a child act on the above referenced actions, a two-minute time out will be issued. 3. Should a child persist with the above actions, we reserve the right to send the child home. B. For all other behavioral issues, two-minute time outs are issued, AS NECESSARY. We will not overuse this. C. Should a child's behavior become problematic, we do reserve the right to send the child home. We can not continue to keep a child who is disruptive in this environment. V. Child Care Sign Ups VI. You are required to sign your child up for this service. The minimum age is 3 months for a child to be signed up in the nursery. If you did not sign up for a time slot in advance; please understand we will not be able to accommodate your child. We are in need of a certain number of adults to child ratio, and we can not allow last minute additions. Therefore it you think maybe you are interested in volunteering, sign up for childcare NOW. We would rather have too many volunteers in the nursery and send them out to other areas where help is needed rather than risk safety by not having enough adult supervision. VII. Times Please note that childcare will be provided on Thursday from 12:30PM to 6:00PM only. Childcare is NOT OFFERED while you are shopping. This includes any volunteer pre-sale. Please make other arrangements for childcare for your children. VIII. Guidelines Please be aware that children do get tired of being in a controlled environment. As much as we try to do different activities, the children sometimes get bored and begin to misbehave. We ask that you limit your child's stay in the nursery to the four hours asked of you in volunteering. We reserve that right to ask you to take your child home should they become completely discontent in the nursery. New rules for childcare
1. No purses or personal belongings of volunteers are to be stored in the nursery. ONLY DIAPER BAGS ARE ALLOWED. 2. At 12:00 Noon on Thursday, all consignment sale items need to be removed from the nursery. 3. Either Cori Begg or Barbara Flynt or Karen McCaffery will be in the nursery during the childcare times. 4. The nursery door will be locked when the nursery is not occupied. 5. No outside food will be allowed in the nursery. This includes bag lunches and fast food lunches. A blanket will be provided for children to eat their food outside of the nursery. 6. After cleanup on Friday night, the nursery door will be locked and WILL NOT OPEN until Sunday morning. 7. We would like to send this revised childcare policy and registration information to all volunteers needing childcare.
